How This Car Sculpts Sound To Create Harmonic Acoustics | The New Symphony
Emilie Levienaise-Farrouch is a musician and film composer. Classically trained but now working in a very modern idiom across soundtracks, sampling, field recordings and performance, Levienaise-Farrouch has been nominated for both Ivor Novello and British Independent Film Awards. She began her career studying piano, but these days she is immersed in finding new ways of combining acoustic instruments with digital sampling technology.
For Levienaise-Farrouch, music is a spatial canvas, a way of taking the listener on a journey. “I don't necessarily think in terms of frequencies but rather in what's called ‘timbre’ in musical language,” she says. “It’s like somebody’s voice, instruments have a specific texture to them-a violin will have a different identity to a piano, for example. I also think in terms of bass, mids and trebles, and how different instruments can cover each area. Then there is panning-deciding where each instrument sits in space. This can also be dynamic-an instrument can appear to move, which is exciting.”
New technology has always been a driving force behind Levienaise-Farrouch’s work, as is the art of marrying music to image. “The first time I was really blown away by the power of a film score was when I watched Blade Runner the first time,” she recalls. “The opening track by Vangelis evoked a completely new world, a reality and a power I didn’t know music could have. When I’m in a car, I prefer to listen to music as a passenger. Then I can just drift off and treat the moving landscape as if it was a film. Ideally, you should always listen to music with this kind of intent, so you can become immersed in its journey and story.”
With its powerful 27-speaker Meridian Signature sound system and unique Body and Soul Seats, Range Rover Sport SV assists and enhances this spatial approach to composition. In addition, the car’s sophisticated onboard noise-canceling creates an impressive acoustic environment for listening to all kinds of music. “It’s important to note that this doesn’t just cancel out powertrain noise, which is relatively straightforward, but also road noise, which is much more complicated as it results from more sources and paths that can generate noise.”

How Much Control Should We Give Robots? | The Future of Robotics | Part 1 | WIRED
Переглядів 5 тис.2 роки тому
What is a robot? Well, it doesn't always look like a human. In fact, different roboticists have different definitions. But most agree that a robot needs to be a physical machine that can sense the world around it, and make at least some decisions on its own. In the next few years, we're going to start seeing robots that make decisions entirely on their own - fully autonomous robots. Many fear t...

10:30 out of sight out of mind....those 6 words hit hard 😮 I have to have everything around me and not put away into like cupboards or boxes. I guess you would say my house is a little cluttered but that is because I won't remember that I have the stuff unless it's in my eyes view. I also don't worry or miss people like other people do and I contribute this to me not being able to visualize any other scenarios with current situations and reality. I can think of different scenarios and be imaginative but it doesn't affect my nervous system because it's totally separated from my imagination.

Omg is this a spectrum bc I’m relating somewhat ever since I started grieving & obsessing over collecting images of my loved one bc I feel like I can’t picture them if they were alive. I keep trying to picture them in the room I’m in or wherever I’m at at the time, and I get this horrible “blanking out” feeling as I can’t come up with the answer (of what they would look like or did look like, even) or something- I don’t think it’s at the point of totally having no mental image of a concept but it’s like I have to really focus & it doesn’t come naturally, if that makes sense ?? And it’s always been that way where people talk about visualization for mediation & such and I have just never been able to take myself to a place mentally. But i love art & am artistic irl, so I never thought I’d have such a “deficiency” as this but..yeah…I feel like this is the same reason I’m great at navigating on foot (either from experience or just using intuition to find where to go) but horrible at navigating based on maps I’m supposed to have “in my head” from looking at gps or birdseye imagery maps beforehand of a route/place.

That’s crazy I remember stumbling on Amy’s video abt aphantasia and it made me realize that I have it too! I paint traditionally and I’ve been recently trying to test myself to create paintings/compositions without following a strict reference image (I paint a lot of landscapes). It’s seemingly been improving my ability to “create” understandable images in my mind. My minds eye tends to pull from memory images instead of imagination - so if someone tells me to picture a red apple, my brain picks the most recent memory of seeing a red apple and the memory/image kind of shimmer in my mind (not a concrete picture). Super cool to hear that there’s more research being conducted! Maybe I’ll look into trials in the future :)

I’d also be interested to know how many ppl with aphantasia also have neurodivergences. I personally have ADHD and OCD. It almost feels like my brain doesn’t have the energy to create images ON TOP of the other constant thoughts running through my brain haha it’s just like “here, remember this, there you go” haha

I also lost my mom when I was 16, and we were VERY close, yet I moved on quicker than my family as well. I didn’t get the same visual reminders as them. My dad and brother specifically seemed (like _____ said) almost confused or judgmental. I thought I was just compartmentalizing tbh but it’s been 7yrs now and I feel like i have truly accepted her passing. It also helped me to have an object (plush frog) which ‘feels’ like her, a little physical reminder for my own lack of mental image ♥️ I also tend to “forget” abt friends that I haven’t seen in awhile. FaceTime is great bc it lets me see the persons face and that can help me to reconnect with them better than just texting/phone call.
